The first dive of the year is like celebrating the New Year all over again… hoping the sightings will be better… hoping the sightings of last year continue… hoping the diving this year goes without incident… hoping to meet new divers…
Of course, since I got back into taking stills underwater, I was excited to spot and photograph fish to capture. Here’s what I photographed during this year’s first dive:
Until the next dive…

Very cool – I bet that was an amazing experience.
Such incredible color! What kind of camera/film are you using?
Simply stunning photos…
The colors underwater are simply amazing… that’s one of the reasons I enjoy diving so much.
I use a Canon 10D (24-85mm f3.5), Ikelite housing, DS125 & DS161 substrobes and Photoshop for post processing.
I’m doing my oceanarium thesis…I love the photos!
I’ve seen photos on the Freshly Pressed page before, but these speak differently to me. There is magic in these photos, for sure. I love the clownfish and the rascal who seems to light up effervescently. These pics are reminders to always keep a bit of wonder in your day.
Thank you for sharing your wonder with us
Kudos on being FP!
Thank you for your encouraging comments. I didn’t even know what “Freshly Pressed” was until I read it here…
It’s quite an honor…
Amazing photos. One of my goals is to learn to dive and go on a great diving trip! Thank you for the added inspiration.
I’m glad that the pictures have inspired you closer to your goal. Diving is truly amazing. It’s so peaceful underwater and the view is spectacular.
WHOA. That must have been an absolutely amazing experience!!! Beautiful pictures, just stunning!!! Congrats on getting Freshly Pressed!
Congrads on being chosen for “Freshly Pressed.” The beauty of your work shows your love of your dive and what secrets the deep renders you.
I truly love diving… I look forward to every trip with such gusto.
Wow! Just plain WOW!
It must be amazing to see these things with your own eyes. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
It’s a whole other world under there!
Quite true… simply amazing…
Where were you diving?
Beautiful! It must have been a fantastic experince!
It always is… you just never know what you’ll see down there…
Very nice dekstop photos
thanks ;D
Awesome photos. I need to get back in the water soon!
I remember snorkeling in Bermuda (not diving!) and seeing tropicial fish underwater in person — it’s such an amazing experience! Thanks for posting the photos — I’m sure they’ll be wonderful memory joggers in years to come. Where were you diving?
This was taken in Anilao, Batangas in the Philippines… our little “diving playground.” Being only a 2.5 hour road trip from the center of Metro Manila, my buddies and I try to visit as often as possible.
These pics will look nice on my desktop. . .
wow! Those pictures are gorgeous!
I AGREE!
The pictures inspire me to go diving! A great post, and really incredible photos!
I strongly recommend scuba diving. It’s a whole new world down there just waiting to be explored.
I haven’t been diving in forever and these pictures are inspiration!
LOVED IT
WoW man! you’ve got it fantastically. I wish i could have the best camera in the world like the ones you have. I must try driving once. Well, I’ve been dreaming to dive but still have to work out on my swimming.. heheh LoL. Anyway, please let me insert a link her. (I’m working as SEOer for the meantime.)

Please please don’t delete you would really help me getting points. Thank you. You’re pictures are really beautiful. I wish you could have more diving and more pictures.
Lovely pictures!
Thanks 4 your wonderful photos.

Those are just beautiful pictures!
Years, years ago I was close in getting started with diving but unfortunately never made it come true.
If you can, why not fulfill that goal… you will not regret it.
I love that the water appears to be crystal clear – no visible particles or anything distracting. Do you make your photos available through a stock company? I imagine you would do quite well.

What helps is that the strobes are on long arms, far from the camera’s lens… this helps make the water clear.
Photography is a hobby. I’ve done it off and on since I was a teenager. Since my first dSLR in 2003, I’ve started again after a long hiatus.
lovely photos what camera did you used and wheres the place?
I use a Canon 10D (24-85mm f3.5), Ikelite housing, DS125 & DS161 substrobes and Photoshop for post processing.
This was taken in Anilao, Batangas in the Philippines. Our home away from home… our “diving playground” year round. Being 2.5 hours from the center of Metro Manila, we try and visit as often as we can.
Spectacular!!! I love underwater images. I can’t swim and I just admire people that not only CAN swim, but that will do deep sea diving or snorkeling or surfing. Maybe one day I’ll finally learn (it’s on my bucket list), but for now, I’m glad I got to see the underwater world through your eyes and lens. Thanks for sharing!
My wife does not know how to swim, yet she managed to get herself certified as a diver. Inquire at a local dive shop… you may be crossing out that entry on your bucket list sooner than you think.
Wow, excelent photos! Magnificent colors
Wow those are great. What camera and kind of flash did you use? Those are just beautiful. They should be in a magazine.
Your comments are truly flattering… thank you.
I use a Canon 10D (24-85mm f3.5), Ikelite housing, DS125 & DS161 substrobes and Photoshop for post processing.
Great pictures! I’m starting my open water certification class in a few weeks, to prep for my first trip to Cozumel with my new hubby. These photos definitely helped get me out of the winter blues and thinking forward to our trip!
I bet you’ll both love it, diving is one of those things you can’t help but fall for once you try it! And Cozumel is a great place to go! All the best.
Amazing colors, beautiful shots. Nature photography as its finest!
Beautiful stuff…glorious riot of colors

I don’t dive, but sure do love to look at Diver’s pictures and yours are great, the color is Awesome!
Gorgeous pictures!! I’m inspired to learn diving
Might be first for me this year.
Go for it… you will not regret it. There’s another world down there just waiting for you to peek into…
these are some really good pics
Beautiful! What an experience that must have been. Congrats on FP!
Great pics, thanks for sharing!
Completely spectacular shots!
These pictures are gorgeous! Do you have any information on how you set up the shots?
OMG these are fabulous. Terrific colours! Bad ears so have missed out on this watery world. Thanks.
Nature, especially the oceans, is a restaurant, lol.
Quite true… but they must be fished responsively. Some species are being over-fished into extinction. And if one species goes into extinction, the whole food chain is disrupted.
These are wonderful images. Perfect escape from the snowy wheather we are having.
Gorgeous photos! Isn’t the ocean just a wondrous place?
I agree with you 100%
Great shots! I especially like the one of the two clownfish, they’re one of my favorites. Makes me anxious to get my first dive in, but I think I have to wait until April
Keep it up!
Thank you for the encouragement. I will be posting future dive pictures… just keep checking. In the meantime, you can check out my older u/w shots on the UWP (http://maxovrdrive.wordpress.com/uwp/) page.
These photos are so amazing, I’m having a hard time believing they are real. I mean, I know they are, but to see a world this colorful and diverse, I wonder if the first Garden of Eden was underwater.
Stunning. Gorgeous. Surreal.
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed.
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Where is this? Amazing!
This was taken in Anilao, Batangas in the Philippines. Our home away from home… our “diving playground” year round. Being 2.5 hours from the center of Metro Manila, we try and visit as often as we can.
wow amazing.. i love picture no4
beautiful photos. I am worried about our great barrier reef at the moment because of all the fresh water pouring into it . once again congratulations on being freshly pressed
Amazing pictures – hope you didn’t get too close to that lion fish’s spines!
Somebody done knows how to make some good photos. Excellent work!
Nice shots, Alberto. I need to get wet, my skin is getting crinkly.
This speaks to the beauty of our oceans, something that I wish desparately to preserve. It’s people like you who show all of us what the magic of nature blesses upon all of us if we would only take the time to observe and upon that observation, make a commitment to preserve. Thank you!
It’s actually quite humbling underwater. Being an alien in their world, you tend to “feel” more for the other wonderful creatures that share this planet with us.
wow! those are incredible!! i can’t believe how sharp they are for being under water. I hope you don’t mind me using the clownfish or the one above as my wallpaper
thanks for posting these!
Nice pictures!!….Not everyone could get a chance to dive like you and take the snaps…….Congrats on FP…
I know that I am fortunate enough to be able to dive on a regular basis… taking pictures is one way to share the scenery of sites I “stroll” often.
These are great pictures — I especially like the pictures of the clown fish in the anemones!

Superb piece of photography…. keep it up!
I wish I could dive and see all this myself. These are very good photos. I envy you!
I love your underwater photos. Thanks for sharing!
Wow,
What beautiful pics. Do they really look so beautiful underwater?
I have been planning to go scuba diving from quite some time, now these pics have only enthused me further. Lakshwdweep or ‘Laccadive’ is one of the Indian Islands which offer scuba diving.
Any special camera’s for underwater pics? How much do they cost.
Thanks for sharing. Made my day.
On a bright sunny day, they do… the colors are rich and vibrant.
Most cameras nowadays have matching underwater housings. Either from the manufacturer themselves or through others. The price really depends on the type and brand of the housing.
nice photo keep it up
OK
beautiful
Ohh wow nice pics!!
yah,its beautiful pics
Fantastische photos ,das zeigt wie vielschichtig und schön unsere Welt ist.
Wirklich gut gelungene Photos
Respekt!
these pics are beautiful. I live in Michigan and it is freezing, makes me want to go on vacation:) Go big or go home: Adding color to black and whites. Black and white blah or black and white BAM. How to turn contrasting colors into an unforgettable outfit. http://ow.ly/3CrSc
woah!! underwater?? this is like so cool
loved the post
i really love your pictures
Beautiful, beautiful photos!
~Leah
wow, amazing
These are amazing – I love the one of the clown fish! It’s so great that you get to do this, very lucky.
The picture of the moray eel and the shrimp is very intriguing. In this representation of the battle of the fittest, you managed to capture that moment when everything just hangs in the balance, and we are left contemplating the shrimp’s possible lucky escape…
Actually the shrimp are there to “clean” the eel’s teeth… symbiotic relationship. The eel’s get their teeth cleaned, the shrimp’s get their meal and don’t become one… everybody wins…
Wow – those shots are completely amazing! It really must be great to dive in such an environment
We are fortunate that the Philippines lies within the coral triangle. Quoting from WWF, “The Coral Triangle, the global centre of marine biodiversity, is a 6 million km2 area spanning Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands.
Within this nursery of the seas live 76% of the world’s coral species, 6 of the world’s 7 marine turtle species, and at least 2,228 reef fish species.”
WOW! AMAZING pictures! what camera did you use down there? looks beautiful

Beautiful pics….I owned a pet store back in the early 90′s & we carried salt-water fish….they are amazing…couldn’t imagine what it would be like to see them where they like this!
I used to have a reef tank back in the day… but it doesn’t compare to seeing the fish in their natural environment. Plus, I’ve learned that most salt-water fish are caught using cyanide… that quickly made me stop supporting the trade.
Yea…been out of it for years…bought a tank about 2 years ago…set it up a salt tank, but have since switched back over to fresh.
You get to dive AND take photographs? These are simply amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it on any of the other blogs I follow. Can’t wait to see what beautiful images your next dive brings.
Combining the two hobbies into one is great. Personally, I also can’t wait at what lurks below the surface on our next dive…
Truly amazing pics!
Thank you very much…
These pictures should be published in a book or something (maybe a travel and diving guide book)!
wow daming comments! i love the photos albert! miss diving.
Thanks… when are you getting your scales wet?
Ooh, love it!
The clown fish near the end are my favorite.
Great work!
Nice Photographs.
gorgeous!
