toto surprise

April 3, 2008 marked the concert for Toto in Manila.  I originally had no intentions of watching.  I had watched them a few years back - they came a few months after my idol, Jeff Porcaro passed away.  I remember having a good time at the concert.  Since then, I have not heard about this band although they have released quite a number of albums.

So … I wondered, what can be new with them?  They’re an 80’s rock band and their sound hasn’t really evolved …

They had played in Cebu the day before.  I had received a text message from a friend that the show was great … jamming … good rock & roll show … etc.  I got excited.  I went to their website and was surprised that Lee Sklar was touring with them since Mike Porcaro was injured and had to sit out the tour.  I’ve have always admired Lee Sklar since the 70’s due to his sessions with James Taylor.  Although I was saddened by the injury of Mike Porcaro, Lee Sklar was going to be a treat.

The rest of the band members are nothing less than superb too … I mean these guys have been session musicians before they started Toto.

Needless to say, I was totally impressed and truly enjoyed the concert.  They had slightly re-arranged most of their songs which “blew me away”on occassion.  Truly a treat …
